Ocho Rios Jamaica

Ocho Rios also called “Ochie” which is Spanish and means eight rivers is located in St. Ann. This town which was once a fishing village has grown tremendously over the last twenty years (20yrs) and has now developed into a booming tourist resort in Jamaica. This town is recognized as one of the famous stops for cruise ships into the Caribbean and an appealing resort town with spectacular water falls, beaches and interesting period buildings.

When driving along the northern coastline of Jamaica, you can find this resort about sixty miles from Annotto Bay to Discovery Bay. This town is very popular for scuba diving and other water sports activities and has two of the top attractions in Jamaica which are Dunn’s River Falls and Dolphin Cove.

With the influx of hundreds of acres of land which makes up the beach areas; new hotels, apartments, shopping centers and a marina were introduced to this town that already had established hotels such as Shaw Park and the Jamaica Inn. These developments in combination with its central location on the new highway will take you from the Sangster’s International Airport in Montego Bay in short time. This further boosts the tourism activities in this resort.

Shopping in Ocho Rios is fairly easy; this can be done at one of the many shopping plazas which offer Jamaican crafts and souvenirs for duty-free bargains from the in-bond stores. The craft villages which are located in the downtown area are also a good place to shop and they stock a variety of goods to choose from.

If you prefer something more formal then you can stop at the Ruins at the Falls Restaurant, where you are guaranteed a memorable experience at this venue which sits beside a forty feet waterfall surrounded by a flourishing tropical garden.

Similar to other resort town on the island, this town offers an exciting nightlife with numerous clubs that would be buzzing with activities. If you want to venture a little out the town you will also find some entertainment.
