The beautiful resort town of Ocho Rios is situated in the garden parish of Jamaica. The name is a perfect fit as it boasts some of the most tropical plants, rivers, waterfalls and beaches that you find on this island. When you think of attractions and activities this town has much more to see than the plants and water; there is also appealing historical buildings and sites, museums, nature, adventure and other Ocho Rios tours.

This spot has been dense with the growth of fern for many years and is said to have probably over three hundred species that are growing in this very shaded gorge; over five hundred species can be found in Jamaica.

The length of this fern gully is said to be three miles, it was once one of the eight rivers that use to flow through this area. However, after a hurricane around the year 1907, the river disappeared and what is left is an old river bed.

A very popular Ocho Rios tours is on the hills close to the Fern Gully overlooking the city, there you will find the Shaw Park and Coyaba Garden with their magnificent tropical birds, waterfalls and wide variety of exotic tropical flowers. There are other scenic gardens around this lovely town and also surrounding areas that you can explore.

One of top attraction in this resort is the celebrated Dunn’s River Falls and Park, with its cool water flowing from springs underground; cascading down over 700 feet of falls into the beach below. This area is said to be the largest of the eight rivers that can be found in this area, the original name that was given to it by the Spanish was “Las Chorreras”.

This means springs or waterfalls and this is very fitting as it is one this resorts centerpiece and the most beautiful spot that you will find on the island. It is believed that this spectacular waterfall is a cut above all others as it give you this amazing thrill of climbing not only the surrounding rocks but the water face of the falls.

When you visit this attraction you can climb on your own or get guided tours, but wear proper footwear as there are sharp and slippery rocks. If you choose not to climb the falls you can enjoy the beautiful garden, swim in the beach or walk on the different decks to see the falls.

The other top attraction in Ocho Rios is the nearby Dolphins Cove which is said to be the number one marine attraction on the island. At this attraction it is said that you will have experiences that will last you a lifetime, there are many activities and features on this property; offering something for every member of the family.

Some of the activities include swimming and touching the bottlenose dolphins, stingrays lagoon, mini boat rides, shark show, jungle trail where you get to interact with tropical animals, glass bottom kayaks, video shop and an imitation of little Port Royal. If you want to spend the day in one location doing a variety of activities this is a perfect spot, there is a food and drink available, you will not go hungry.

There are other exotic attractions that you could visit such as the Turtle River Park and the Eden Falls. The Turtle River Park is fairly new but has been getting many visitors exploring the beautiful and peaceful grounds of the picturesque park.

If you need to break from the hustle and bustle, this is the perfect spot to experience nature’s tranquility. The features of this attraction are the gazebo, flower beds, concert pavilion, a large turtle and fish pond and snack areas.

The Eden Falls, more popularly known as The Ruins at the Falls is another breathtaking attraction. This attraction was inspired by an American doctor to create this ruin with the imitations of plantation buildings in the 1950’s.

This attraction features a restaurant that is illuminated by the most amazing waterfalls that is cascading into the Caribbean Sea. Today, it is one of the popular spots in this town which offers historic and garden tours of its lush surroundings. There is also a gift shop and art gallery where you can purchase items.
